KEY ISSUES
Promoting Cultural & Recreational Opportunities
What defines a city happens long after the cameras leave. It’s measured by whether families choose to stay.
We’ve lost things that mattered, including a youth center that worked hard to serve our kids. That shouldn’t happen because of strained relationships or politics. When it comes to our youth, relationships should be strengthened, not broken.
We can do better.
Our parks are good, but they could be great. There’s equipment sitting out there right now that’s worn down, visibly aging, rusting, and ignored.
That stops on day one.
-
We will assess every park.
-
We will repair or replace dilapidated equipment.
-
We will use local trades and contractors to get it done.
-
We will maintain what we build.
Our parks should shine. And we shouldn’t stop there.
Have you heard of PICKLEBALL?
I already have property identified that can accommodate 10 courts, with another 4 if needed. Bring the pickleball tournaments to DeRidder, along with all the people from other cities that will need to eat and shop while they’re here!
West Park Ballfields are on my radar.
I am not a Ballfield expert, but I am resourceful, I don’t mind asking for help and have already done so. I’m proud to say I have folks that are excited to help us improve what we have and show us how to get into travel ball shape so that we can host out of town teams rather than our teams leaving to go play somewhere else.
I have plans for a centralized Food Truck Park
A family friendly gathering space where local vendors can set up, families can choose from multiple food options, kids can play, and our community can connect.
We already host great festivals.
Let’s build on that momentum with more food focused events, more youth activities, and more reasons for families to spend time together right here at home.
If we want DeRidder to grow, we have to give our kids a reason to stay.
