KEY ISSUES
Proactive Economic Development
Economic development should not be reactive or photo op driven, it should be intentional, data driven, and continuously working 24/7/365. A proactive approach means identifying target industries and ancillary businesses that fit DeRidder’s workforce, infrastructure, and quality of life goals; preparing shovel ready sites; streamlining permitting; and actively courting businesses and potential businesses rather than waiting on chance opportunities. We will make sure the world knows we are open for business. It also means supporting existing local businesses, encouraging downtown revitalization and restoration, and leveraging state, regional, and private partnerships to expand the tax base without overburdening residents. Let’s not forget this includes residential property as well as commercial. My plan includes reclaiming all adjudicated property inside city limits and turning those into a new place to live for people and in turn, creating opportunities for more ad valorem taxes and a water meter that generates revenue for our city.
